About Actionofferquest

Actionofferquest Education Centre in Robina

Actionofferquest is an independent education centre on the Gold Coast that has been teaching adults for over a decade, with small classes and trainers who still work in the fields they teach.

Our history

Started in a spare room, still run like it matters

Our founder, Daniel Whitmore, was teaching IELTS part time in a shared office above a newsagent when a student asked him a question he could not answer well: what happens after the test, when you actually have to use the language at work? That question is basically why Actionofferquest exists.

We moved to University Drive in 2016 and added the business diploma a year later, after local employers kept telling us they could not find people who understood costing, rosters and basic performance conversations. The short workshops came later, after too many students asked us to squeeze essential skills into a single day.

  • Opened in 2014 as a single teaching room
  • Moved to the current campus in 2016
  • Diploma added in 2017 after employer requests
  • Online catch-up library launched in 2020
What we believe

Three ideas we do not bend on

Small or nothing

We would rather run three extra groups than push a class to twenty-five. Once a trainer cannot call on every person by name, the room stops working. That is why we cap at sixteen seats and hold the line even when we have a waiting list.

Honest feedback

If your writing is not at the right level yet, we say so and tell you what to do about it. Softening that message wastes your money and your time. Every student gets written feedback on assessment, not just a band score and a shrug.

Skills you actually use

We do not teach theory for its own sake. Every unit ends with something you could take to work on Monday: a costed quote, a roster, a performance plan, a presentation you have already delivered to real people.

The team

The people who will actually teach you

Every trainer here has worked in the field they teach. Between them they have run restaurant kitchens, taught in public schools, managed warehouses and consulted to small businesses across the Gold Coast.

Daniel Whitmore

Daniel Whitmore

Founder and lead IELTS trainer

Twenty years in language teaching, including six years assessing speaking exams. He still teaches three groups a week because he says he would go rusty otherwise.

Rachel Okonkwo

Rachel Okonkwo

Diploma program coordinator

Spent twelve years in operations management before moving into teaching. She designs the project work around problems her old teams actually faced.

Tom Vestergaard

Tom Vestergaard

Business and finance trainer

A chartered accountant who got bored of spreadsheets and started teaching. He makes numbers make sense to people who have always hated numbers.

Mei Lin Chow

Mei Lin Chow

Academic skills trainer

Works with students heading to university study. Specialises in the gap between exam English and the writing you need for a first-year essay.

Milestones

A few things we are proud of, in order

2014

First intake of eight students

One room, one trainer and a timetable written on butcher paper taped to the wall. Six of those eight passed their IELTS on the first attempt.

2016

Move to University Drive

Purpose-fitted rooms, a quiet study area and parking behind the building. It is still the same address today.

2017

Diploma of Business Management launched

Built with input from nine local employers who told us exactly what new supervisors were getting wrong.

2020

Recorded sessions and online catch-up

Shift work and lockdowns forced our hand. Every class has been recorded since, and it turned out to be one of the most popular things we ever did.

2022

Alumni mentoring program

Graduates come back to talk to current students about what changed at work after they finished. Roughly sixty people attend each year.

2024

Computer bay and flexible study upgrade

Twelve workstations and software you would actually meet in an entry-level office job, not stripped-back demo versions.

Our approach

Teach the person in front of you, not the average

Most courses are written for a hypothetical student who has all evening free and no kids. Our students are shift workers, parents, people on a visa deadline and business owners who cannot afford to shut up shop for a term.

So we treat the timetable as a design problem, not a fixed grid. If a group of six wants a Wednesday evening slot, we will open one. If someone has to move cities for a month, we will keep their seat and give them the recordings.

  • Timetable built around your week, not ours
  • One free group switch per term, no paperwork
  • Catch-up recordings posted the same evening
  • Extra one-to-one help if a topic is not landing

What our graduates have gone on to do

We keep in touch with people after they leave. These three went through the diploma and are now running teams, a business or an operation of their own.

I was a duty manager at a supermarket and had been passed over twice for the roster planning role. The diploma gave me the language and the confidence to argue for it properly. I got the job eight weeks after finishing.

Anna Petrakis

Coming from overseas, my biggest worry was the writing. The academic skills trainer spent three sessions with me on essay structure alone, unpaid, because she said it was more useful than another vocabulary drill.

Jung-Ho Park
Jung-Ho Park IELTS student, now at university

I run a cafe with six staff and had no idea how to write a proper cash flow forecast. Rachel walked me through it three times without a hint of impatience. The business is still open, which honestly it might not have been.

We are part of the Gold Coast, not a franchise passing through

Our trainers live here. Our students work in places we shop at. When a local business owner tells us their new hires cannot write a client email, that becomes a workshop the following term.

We run free interview skills sessions for anyone registered with a local employment service, and we hold two open evenings a year where anyone can walk in with no booking and ask us anything.

Study habits that work when you have a job

Nobody studies for three hours after a full shift. These are the routines our working students actually keep, including a short one you can do on a train.

Come and have a look for yourself

We are on University Drive in Robina, and you are welcome to drop in during opening hours. If you would rather book a time, send us a message and we will arrange it.
