Actionofferquest Study Guides and Advice

Actionofferquest writes short, practical articles for adults studying around work, with advice from trainers who teach IELTS and business courses here in Robina.

2

articles published so far, both written by our own trainers

5-6 min

the length we aim for, short enough for a lunch break

11 yrs

of classroom experience behind what gets written here

Nothing here was written to fill a content calendar

Every piece on this page comes out of a real question a student asked in class. When enough people ask the same thing, a trainer sits down and writes it up properly. That is the whole editorial policy.

Two pieces worth your lunch break

One is about choosing a course without wasting a term on the wrong one. The other is about how to study when you finish work tired and short on time.

How to pick a course that actually fits your life

Most people start with the certificate at the end and work backwards from there. Rachel argues you should start with the hours you actually have free, then look at what the job behind the certificate demands. There is a short exercise in the middle that takes ten minutes and usually rules out half the options.

Study habits that work when you have a job

Study habits that work when you have a job

Nobody studies for three hours after a full shift, and pretending otherwise is how people burn out in week three. Daniel writes about the routines our working students actually keep, including an eleven-minute habit you can do on the train and a rule about phones that sounds small but changes the whole evening.

Start with the course choice, not the study plan

If you are going to read one of the two articles above, read the course one first. Every study habit in the world will not help if you have signed up for the wrong qualification and only realise it in month four, once the deposit is gone and the intake has closed.

The course article sets out a way of choosing that starts with your free hours, then the job you want, then the certificate. It is not a long read and there is nothing to buy at the end of it.

Topics we write about

The four themes on this blog

Choosing a course

How to pick something that fits a real week rather than a hypothetical one, and what questions to ask any provider before you pay.

Study skills

Routines for adults juggling work and family, plus what to do when a topic refuses to stick no matter how many times you read it.

English and IELTS

The difference between exam English and workplace English, and why passing the test does not automatically make a meeting easier.

Working life

The practical business skills nobody teaches on the job, from costing a project to having a difficult conversation with someone you manage.

How we write

A few rules we hold ourselves to

01

Written by whoever teaches it

Articles are written by the trainer who runs the course the article relates to. Nobody here writes about a subject they do not teach.

02

Short enough to finish

We aim for five to six minutes of reading. If a piece needs more than that, it probably needs splitting into two.

03

Something you can try this week

Each article ends with a concrete suggestion. Not an inspirational conclusion, an action that takes under half an hour.

04

Updated when we change our minds

If our advice on a course or a study method shifts after a term of teaching, we go back and edit the article rather than leave it stale.

Our courses

The courses most of these articles relate to

If reading these pieces has left you wondering about the actual programs, these are the two we run and teach from our campus in Robina.

IELTS Preparation Course

IELTS Preparation Course

Eight weeks of structured teaching for people with a real deadline, whether that is a visa, a university place or a professional registration. Two marked mock exams and weekly speaking drills.

Questions

The bits people ask us by email anyway

Whenever we have something worth saying, which works out at roughly one article a month. We would rather publish nothing than pad the page out with recycled advice you have already read elsewhere.

Please do. Send it through the contact form and it goes on a list the trainers review at the start of each month. Plenty of what you see here started as a student email, honestly.

Mostly yes, especially anything about choosing a course or a qualification pathway. The study habit pieces travel better because they are about behaviour rather than systems.

Send it wherever it is useful. A link back is appreciated but not required, and you do not need to ask us first. Our full terms are set out in the Terms and Conditions if you want the formal version.
